Key Responsibilities
- Respond to emergency situations including code blue and rapid response events; provide airway management and ventilatory support for patients in critical and emergent care settings
- Assess and monitor patients on invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilatory support, adjusting parameters as ordered to optimize patient outcomes
- Perform provider-prescribed medicated and non-medicated therapies including nebulizer treatments, metered dose inhalers, chest physiotherapy, and positive expiratory pressure
- Complete diagnostic procedures including pulmonary function testing, arterial and capillary blood gas sampling, 12-lead ECG, holter monitoring, and oximetry studies
- Document patient assessments, therapy, and pertinent clinical information in the medical record; communicate patient status during shift reports and care transitions
- Manage, clean, and prepare respiratory equipment including mechanical ventilators and therapeutic gas delivery devices; participate in quality improvement and departmental operations
Required Qualifications
- Associate's Degree in Respiratory Care
- Mandatory certification in Respiratory Therapy (Kentucky Board of Respiratory Care) OR Respiratory License (Indiana Professional Licensing Agency) appropriate for facility location
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (except for candidates in Pulmonary Function Testing as determined by hiring manager); Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) required for candidates working with neonatal populations (not required for PFT candidates as determined by hiring manager)
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Care
- Prior healthcare or customer service experience
- Experience with a limited permit or student respiratory license
