Contract | Night Shift | 12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM | Every other weekend required | Every other holiday required
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a 28-bed Medical Telemetry unit serving patients with diagnoses including CHF, heart failure, diabetes, end-of-life care, and general medical conditions requiring telemetry monitoring
- Maintain a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5 on night shifts, with support from patient care technicians and a 24/7 charge nurse
- Monitor telemetry using Space Lab brand monitors; a dedicated telemetry monitor tech is available 24/7, though nurses are expected to actively watch monitors
- Collaborate with Respiratory Therapy for patients on BiPAP or CPAP; RNs are not required to independently manage ventilator equipment
- Float as needed to a Medical Surgical unit and occasionally to the ICU for general overflow patients
- Adhere to a drug-free campus policy, including compliance with all drug screening requirements
Required Qualifications
- Active Illinois RN license (or confirmation that the application process has been initiated)
- Current BLS certification required
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for standard contract rates
- Must be able to work every other weekend and every other holiday per traveler requirements
- Must comply with all drug screening requirements prior to placement
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Prior experience in a Medical Surgical or Medical Telemetry setting
- Familiarity with telemetry monitoring and cardiac rhythm interpretation
- Experience caring for patients with CHF, heart failure, or end-of-life diagnoses
