Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to antepartum and intrapartum patients in a Labor and Delivery unit with 11 labor rooms and 5 triage rooms; OB triage assignments are not required for contract staff
• Monitor and manage patients using external and internal fetal monitoring, including use of EFM, spiral electrode placement, IUPC placement and calibration, and recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
• Administer and manage medications including Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, antihypertensives, insulin drips, prostaglandins, terbutaline, and antiseizure agents; manage blood and blood product administration and IV infusion pumps
• Assist with vaginal deliveries, high-risk deliveries, C-sections (circulate and recover), and procedures including forceps/vacuum extraction and amnioinfusion; perform sterile vaginal exams and obstetrical triage assessments
• Manage high-acuity obstetrical conditions including pre-eclampsia/eclampsia, HELLP syndrome, postpartum hemorrhage, preterm labor, PROM, multiple gestation, and malpresentations; apply AWHONN staffing standards for patient acuity-based assignments
• May float to the postpartum unit to provide couplet care or care for postpartum patients only, as needed to meet facility needs

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license in Missouri and Kansas, or a compact license valid in both states, required at time of submission
• Pending license may be accepted
• BLS, FHM (Fetal Heart Monitoring), and NRP certifications required
• Minimum of 3 years of Labor and Delivery experience required; first-time travelers are not accepted
• Availability to work 4–5 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling period (Friday and Saturday nights for night shift), plus a minimum of 2 Sunday night shifts per 6-week schedule; on-call commitment of 2 shifts per 6-week schedule period is expected
• Must live at least 75 miles from the facility to be eligible

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience in an LDRP setting is strongly preferred due to the combined Labor, Delivery, and Postpartum unit structure; candidates with L&D or LDR experience only will also be considered
• Familiarity with PeriWatch fetal monitoring application and Philips Avalon fetal monitors
• Experience with couplet care and postpartum/post-operative GYN patient management
• Proficiency with Epic EMR; ability to complete Epic test-out or training modules prior to start
