Contract | Full-Time | Onsite | 12-hour shifts | 3 weekend shifts per 4-week period
Key Responsibilities
- Provide general medical-surgical nursing care to a diverse patient population with diagnoses including chronic illnesses (COPD, diabetes, CHF, end-stage renal disease), GI conditions, infections, neurological disorders, and mental health conditions
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments, develop care plans, and maintain inter-professional communication throughout the care continuum
- Manage and monitor IV therapy, heparin and insulin drips, feeding tubes, chest tubes, and wound vacs
- Utilize electronic health records, IV pumps, telemetry monitoring, and other unit equipment to deliver safe, effective patient care
- Support patients undergoing procedures such as colonoscopies, bronchoscopy, thoracentesis, paracentesis, and minor surgeries
- Float to other medical units as needed based on census and staffing demands; maintain patient ratios of 1:5–6
Required Qualifications
- Active Indiana RN license or compact RN license
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Minimum of 1.5 years of experience in a Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary care setting
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a similarly sized facility (600+ beds)
- Proficiency with Epic electronic health records and Pyxis medication dispensing systems
- Demonstrated competency with IV pumps, telemetry monitoring, wound vacs, feeding pumps, and VTE prevention equipment
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience floating to multiple medical-surgical units within a large hospital system
- Familiarity with management of complex drips including heparin and insulin infusions
- Prior experience with a structured hospital orientation or supplemental staffing program
