Key Responsibilities
- Perform decontamination, disinfection, sterilization, and packaging of surgical instruments and equipment in accordance with established protocols.
- Completely disassemble instruments to remove debris and bioburdens prior to sterilization or high-level disinfection.
- Operate and validate sterilization processes, including autoclaving, while maintaining detailed records of all procedures and monitoring results.
- Support decontamination, sterilization, and packaging needs for other service areas as workload permits.
- Communicate effectively with staff and providers to troubleshoot instrument shortages and recommend suitable alternatives.
- Maintain equipment functionality, report and coordinate maintenance or repairs, and ensure all sterilization parameters are met through quality assurance measures.
- Participate in ongoing training to maintain competency in sterilization procedures and assist in training team members.
- Perform supply handling duties, including inventory checks and product stocking, as time permits.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Certification in Sterile Processing and/or Technology through the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HPSA).
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
- Willingness to receive the flu vaccine.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- One year of experience in a healthcare environment preferred.
- Knowledge of infection control practices, surgical instrumentation, and sterile techniques.
- Strong communication, organizational, and detail-oriented skills.
- Computer proficiency and ability to manage records accurately.
