Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a 43-bed all-private-room orthopedic unit serving a wide variety of medical-surgical, postoperative orthopedic, and trauma patients with fractures
- Deliver postoperative surgical care and general medical-surgical nursing care in accordance with unit standards and protocols
- Maintain nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:5–6 on night shifts, collaborating with PCTs assigned at a 1:7–8 ratio
- Monitor and troubleshoot respiratory equipment including CPAP and heated high-flow devices as needed
- Utilize house-wide telemetry pack monitors (Philips) and read and interpret telemetry strips independently
- Float to other like medical-surgical floors as needed; travel staff are first to float when required
Required Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois, or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Experience in postoperative surgical care and general medical-surgical nursing
- Ability to pass a drug screen; must comply with a drug-free workplace policy
- Availability to work every other weekend (night shift: Friday and Saturday)
Preferred Experience / Skills
- 1–2 years of clinical nursing experience in a medical-surgical or orthopedic setting
- Familiarity with Philips telemetry monitoring systems
- Experience managing postoperative orthopedic and trauma patient populations
