Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in a 10-bed cardiovascular intensive care unit, including immediate post-operative open heart recovery patients from day one
- Care for hemodynamically stable and predictably unstable patients across a range of diagnoses including CHF, COPD, DKA, renal failure, DVT, PE, sepsis, pre and post PCI, pacemaker, revascularization, carotid endarterectomy, and thoracotomy
- Operate advanced medical equipment including A-lines, central lines, chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, continuous bladder irrigation, multiple IV pumps, and short-term ventilatory support (noninvasive and invasive)
- Perform skilled cardiac telemetry monitoring and EKG interpretation, recognizing and responding to potentially deteriorating conditions
- Assess and implement established policies and procedures with minimal supervision; act as a clinical leader and assist with precepting staff
- Manage patients from admission through discharge, including all aspects of care and discharge planning
Required Qualifications
- Current State of Montana RN licensure
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required
- Recent open heart recovery nursing experience required; must be prepared to care for immediate post-operative open heart patients on day one
- Degree from an accredited nursing program
- Demonstrated ability to operate advanced critical care equipment including invasive lines, chest tubes, and ventilatory support devices
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Recent critical care experience in a CVICU or similar high-acuity environment
- Experience with pediatric patient populations
- Background in precepting or mentoring nursing staff
