Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct bedside nursing care at a 1:4 RN-to-patient ratio on a stepdown unit serving a wide variety of patient populations across multiple disciplines
- Manage and monitor a predominantly cardiac patient population including CHF, MI, ACS, cardiac arrhythmia, pacemaker, and post-procedural cardiac patients
- Care for respiratory patients including those with COPD, asthma exacerbations, COVID, influenza, tracheostomy (greater than 24 hours post-placement), chronic home ventilators, high-flow nasal cannula, and BiPAP
- Support overflow care for neurology and renal patients, as well as complex medical-surgical patients requiring higher-level monitoring
- Collaborate within a Co-Care and Virtual Nursing model, working alongside a remote Virtual RN and CNA to support admissions, discharges, rounding, patient education, care planning, and safety rounds
- Float within scope to lower acuity units, renal care, neuro, and medical-surgical units as needed to meet staffing needs
Required Qualifications
- Active Alaska Registered Nurse (RN) license required prior to start; pending license accepted at time of submission but must be in hand before placement
- Minimum of 1 year of RN experience; first-time travelers accepted
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Proficiency with Epic electronic health record system
- Candidate's permanent address must be at least 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
- Must be willing to work 2 of the 3 major holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's; weekend coverage may be more frequent than every other weekend based on staffing needs
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Prior experience in a stepdown, PCU, or IMC setting with exposure to cardiac and respiratory patient populations
- Familiarity with virtual nursing or co-care delivery models
- Experience with high-flow nasal cannula, BiPAP, and tracheostomy management
