Contract | Days (3x12 Hours, 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM) | 36 or 48 hours per week | 13–20 week assignment | Onsite
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a Medical Surgical / Telemetry unit with a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio, managing diagnoses including diabetes, COPD, sepsis, CHF, GI bleed, renal failure, pneumonia, and various surgical recovery cases
- Monitor and interpret cardiac telemetry rhythms, identify and manage dysrhythmias, and utilize remote telemetry monitoring systems
- Perform and manage IV therapy including peripheral line care, PICC line management, central line blood draws, phlebotomy, and administration of blood products, heparin, insulin, and PCA
- Provide respiratory support including BiPAP/CPAP management, high flow nasal cannula, oxygen administration, oral suctioning, and non-invasive airway management
- Deliver wound care including wound vac management, colostomy/ileostomy care, feeding tube management, and chest tube care
- Participate in float assignments as required, adhere to weekend rotation (every other weekend), and be available to serve on Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team during catastrophic events or disasters
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license in North Carolina or a valid Compact state license
- Minimum of 2 years of Med/Surg or Med/Surg Telemetry experience
- Current BLS certification
- NIHSS certification
- Ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias; must pass EKG testing prior to start
- Must be available to work holidays (minimum 2 of 3 major holidays per contract) and every other weekend; no block schedules unless a weekend block
Preferred Experience / Skills
- ACLS certification; experience with on-unit telemetry monitoring, post angiogram, post cardiac surgery, post MI care, and IV insulin protocols
- Experience with tracheostomy care, continuous bladder irrigation, accessing and managing ports, arterial blood gas interpretation, and pre/post thoracic surgery care
- Background in bariatric surgery, CVA management, substance withdrawal, and surgical drain management
- Previous charge nurse experience, community hospital background, and proficiency with electronic documentation
