Contract | Nights (3x12-Hour Shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM) | Onsite | 13–26 Week Assignment
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a Medical Surgical unit with a primary oncology patient population, including administration of chemotherapy, biotherapy (IV, PO, or injection), and management of general medical-surgical diagnoses such as AKI, sepsis, septic shock, malignant neoplasms, encephalopathy, and diabetic foot ulcers
- Perform and manage specialized clinical skills including colostomy care, port access, blood product administration, central line blood draws, PICC line management, peripheral line care, heparin and insulin drips, surgical drains, chest tubes, and wound care/wound vac
- Maintain patient ratios of 1:6, with the understanding that ratios may increase during periods of elevated census on a unit with a daily census of approximately 42
- Float to similar units and alternate inpatient care locations, including inpatient holding in the ED or other medical patient care areas, as needed
- Participate in every-other-weekend scheduling requirements and fulfill on-call obligations if called off on a prescheduled shift, with make-up shifts required for any called-out shifts
- Serve on a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team; may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license in North Carolina or a valid Compact RN license (pending licensure acceptable at time of submission)
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in an inpatient setting, with demonstrated Medical/Surgical skills
- Proficiency in: colostomy care, port access, blood product administration, central line blood draws, PICC line management, peripheral line care, heparin and insulin drip management, surgical drains, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions, and wound care/wound vac
- Ability to administer chemotherapy if required
- Current BLS certification
- Proficiency with PYXIS, EPIC, and SBAR communication framework
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification
- Charge nurse experience
- CPI certification
