Key Responsibilities
- Provide post-anesthesia care for Phase 1 and Phase 2 recovery patients, maintaining nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:2 in both phases
- Care for a diverse surgical caseload including general surgery, urology, gynecology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, and endoscopy
- Manage respiratory support equipment including CPAP, BiPAP, oxygen delivery systems, and assist with intubated patients alongside the Anesthesiologist as primary airway provider
- Perform EKG strip interpretation and conduct thorough patient assessments
- Educate patients and their support persons regarding post-operative care and recovery instructions
- Fulfill call responsibilities including weeknight call (1630–0600), rotating weekend call, and holiday call rotation; response time within 1 hour
Required Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications
- PACU nursing experience with competency in Phase 1 and Phase 2 recovery care
- Strong IV insertion and maintenance skills
- Proficiency with Cerner EMR
- Ability to perform EKG interpretation
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience caring for ICU-level patients recovering in a PACU setting
- Familiarity with PreOp nursing duties, as PACU RNs may float to PreOp as needed
- Strong patient communication and teaching skills with patients and their care sponsors
