Contract | Night Shift | 12-Hour Shifts | 3 Weekend Shifts per 4-Week Period | Onsite
Key Responsibilities
- Provide general medical-surgical nursing care to a diverse patient population with diagnoses including COPD, diabetes, CHF, end-stage renal disease, GI disorders, infections, neurological conditions, and mental health disorders
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments, develop care plans, and communicate effectively within an inter-professional team
- Manage IV therapy, heparin and insulin drips, wound vacs, chest tubes, feeding tubes, and feeding pumps
- Utilize electronic health records (Epic), Pyxis medication dispensing systems, Accucheck glucose monitoring, Hospira IV pumps, and telemetry monitoring equipment
- Support patients undergoing procedures such as colonoscopies, thoracentesis, paracentesis, bronchoscopy, and minor surgeries
- Float to other medical units as needed; maintain patient ratios of 1:5–6
Required Qualifications
- Active Indiana RN license or compact RN license (effective 7/1/20 or later) required
- BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) required
- Minimum of 1.5 years of Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary care nursing experience
- Minimum of 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience at a large hospital (450+ beds)
- Proficiency with Epic EHR and standard medical-surgical equipment
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience managing complex, multi-diagnosis patient populations including chronic illness and mental health comorbidities
- Familiarity with telemetry monitoring and VTE prevention protocols
- Comfort with floating to various medical units within a large hospital system
