Key Responsibilities

• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by a licensed physician and monitor for side effects or reactions.
• Provide first aid and emergency care in response to accidents or injuries during school hours.
• Conduct routine health screenings for vision, hearing, and other health checks, and communicate findings to parents and school administration.
• Assist with the development and implementation of Individual Health Plans (IHP) for students with chronic health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, or allergies.
• Maintain accurate student health records in compliance with local and state health regulations.
• Serve as a liaison between parents, physicians, and school staff to address health-related concerns, and participate in emergency drills and professional development activities.

Required Qualifications

• Valid New York State Registered Nurse (RN) licensure.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Strong clinical skills in medication administration, basic health assessments, and first aid.
• Knowledge of HIPAA and student health confidentiality guidelines.
• Ability to maintain detailed health records and monitor student health data.
• Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Previous experience in pediatric or school nursing.
• Knowledge of common childhood illnesses, health protocols, and state/national health guidelines.
• Strong organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain professionalism in a school setting.
