Key Responsibilities
- Perform initial and ongoing age-appropriate nursing assessments and reassessments throughout the shift
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care based on patient needs and physician orders
- Administer medications correctly utilizing the five rights and evaluate patient response to medications
- Communicate and document patient care activities, status changes, and updates to the healthcare team in accordance with established standards and policies
- Assess patient and family education needs, provide teaching as indicated, and complete discharge planning to ensure patient and family understanding
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, bedside rounding, emergency preparedness planning, and quality improvement initiatives
Required Qualifications
- Current, active Maine RN license or valid Compact RN license
- Current, unexpired BLS certification
- Required immunizations: Varicella (2 doses or titer), Hepatitis B (3 doses, titer, or signed declination), MMR (2 doses or titer), Tdap, and PPD 2-step or titer within the past 12 months; flu shot required during flu season
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of nursing assessment and clinical skills applicable across all age groups
- Ability to meet physical demands including standing, walking, lifting up to 30 lbs, and pushing patients in wheelchairs and on stretchers
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- Current, unexpired ACLS certification preferred
- Prior emergency department nursing experience
