Contract | Days | 12-hour shifts | 3 weekend shifts per 4-week period | Onsite
Key Responsibilities
- Provide general medical-surgical nursing care to a diverse patient population with diagnoses including COPD, diabetes, CHF, end-stage renal disease, GI conditions, infections, neurological disorders, and mental health conditions
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments, develop care plans, and maintain accurate documentation using Epic EHR
- Manage IV therapy, heparin and insulin drips, wound vacs, feeding tubes, chest tubes, and telemetry monitoring
- Operate unit equipment including Hospira IV pumps, Pyxis machines, AccuCheck glucose monitors, heating/cooling pads, and SCDs for VTE prevention
- Maintain inter-professional communication and collaborate with the care team to support patient outcomes at a patient ratio of 1:5–6
- Float to other medical units as needed based on staffing requirements
Required Qualifications
- Active Indiana RN license or compact RN license (compact eligibility as of 7/1/2020) required
- BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) required
- Minimum 1.5 years of experience in a Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary care setting
- Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical experience at a large hospital (450+ beds)
- Proficiency with Epic electronic health record system
- Must live at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for standard contract rates; candidates within 50 miles are welcome to apply and may be considered at an adjusted rate
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience caring for patients undergoing procedures such as colonoscopy, bronchoscopy, thoracentesis, paracentesis, or minor surgical interventions
- Familiarity with telemetry monitoring and management of complex drips in a high-acuity medical-surgical environment
- Prior experience floating within a large hospital system
