Key Responsibilities

• Provide general medical-surgical nursing care to a diverse patient population with diagnoses including COPD, diabetes, CHF, end-stage renal disease, GI disorders, infections, neurological conditions, and mental health disorders
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments, develop care plans, and communicate effectively within an inter-professional team
• Manage clinical equipment and therapies including IV pumps, wound vacs, feeding tubes, chest tubes, heparin and insulin drips, and telemetry monitoring
• Utilize Epic EHR for all clinical documentation and Pyxis for medication management
• Maintain patient ratios of 1:5–6 and complete 3 weekend shifts per 4-week period
• Float to other medical units as needed based on staffing demands

Required Qualifications

• Active Indiana RN license or compact RN license (effective 7/1/2020) required
• BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) required
• Minimum 1.5 years of experience in a Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary care setting
• Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical experience at a large hospital (450+ beds)
• Local travelers are welcome and eligible for this assignment

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Proficiency with Epic electronic health record system
• Experience managing complex drip therapies such as heparin and insulin infusions
• Familiarity with telemetry monitoring and VTE prevention protocols
• Experience caring for patients undergoing procedures such as bronchoscopy, colonoscopy, thoracentesis, paracentesis, or minor surgeries
