Registered Nurse – SICU (Surgical Intensive Care Unit)

Contract | Days | 12-Hour Shifts (0700–1930 or 1900–0730) | Onsite
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to high-acuity surgical ICU patients including cardiovascular surgery (CABG, AVR, MVR, AAA), trauma, NSTEMI/STEMI, vascular, neurosurgery, and general surgery cases in a 16-bed unit (plus 2 procedural beds)
- Maintain nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:2 standard, 1:1 for higher acuity patients (e.g., CRRT, immediate post-op cardiac, MTP, OPO), and 1:3 for med-surg/floor-status patients
- Titrate vasoactive and sedation drips including epinephrine, norepinephrine, propofol, precedex, vasopressin, dobutamine, heparin, insulin, dopamine, neo, and milrinone
- Monitor, read, and document patient telemetry rhythm strips independently using GE monitoring systems
- Collaborate with in-house intensivists (24/7 coverage) and respiratory therapy to manage ventilated and respiratory-supported patients (vents, BiPAP, Vapotherm, etc.)
- Float to MICU or serve as patient observer within the hospital if census needs require redeployment
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license valid in Wisconsin
- Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
- Demonstrated experience with high-acuity surgical ICU patient populations
- Experience caring for post-operative cardiac (POD 1 heart) patients
- Ability to independently monitor and document telemetry rhythm strips
- Must live at least 80 miles from the facility to be eligible as a non-local candidate
Preferred Experience / Skills
- TNCC certification preferred
- Experience with CRRT, IABP, Impella, and/or ECMO
- Prior experience in a tertiary care or Level 2 trauma center environment
