Travel RN – Psychiatric / Behavioral Health (Adult Transitions)

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | 13 Weeks | Nights (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) | Three 12-hour shifts per week, seven days a week including weekends

Key Responsibilities

• Assess patients' mental health status, including recognizing signs of psychiatric disorders, substance use, and behavioral problems through thorough patient histories, behavioral observation, and diagnostic tools
• Develop and implement individualized care plans for patients with mental health and behavioral health needs, including goal-setting, interventions, and outcome evaluation
• Administer psychiatric and psychotropic medications and monitor for side effects or adverse reactions
• Provide crisis intervention support for patients experiencing suicidal ideation, aggression, or acute psychiatric episodes using de-escalation techniques and appropriate medication management — Active Blue Card CPI required
• Monitor patients for physical and psychological symptoms including vital signs, mental status changes, and medication effects
• Float across units based on census and acuity needs; units served include adolescent, lower and higher acuity adult, senior lifestyle, and lower acuity adult populations

Required Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Active Blue Card CPI certification required at time of submission
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 1 year of experience in behavioral health or psychiatric nursing
• Proficiency with electronic documentation systems (Meditech experience a plus)
• Must live at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible as a travel candidate

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience working across multiple psychiatric unit types including adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations
• Strong therapeutic communication skills including active listening, empathy, and rapport-building with psychiatric patients
• Familiarity with psychotropic medication classes and psychiatric treatment protocols
• Experience with patient-centered communication frameworks in an inpatient psychiatric setting
