Contract | Night Shift | 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) | Every other weekend required (Friday/Saturday nights) | Every other holiday required
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a 23-bed Neuro Telemetry unit with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5–6, caring for patients with neurological, medical, surgical, and cardiovascular conditions including CVA, TIA, syncope, encephalopathy, altered mental status, brain mass, aspiration pneumonia, PEG tube complications, atherosclerosis, angina, and cardiac diagnostic/intervention/surgical cases
- Monitor patients using Phillips telemetry monitoring (available for all 23 beds); house-wide monitor techs read and interpret strips — RNs are not required to read their own strips
- Collaborate with charge nurses (staffed each shift, free of or with lesser patient assignment when possible) and patient care technicians to deliver safe, high-quality care
- Manage respiratory support needs including CPAP/BiPap at night and nasal cannula; no ventilator management required
- Float to other hospital units as needed, excluding OB, OR, and ED
- Adhere to facility drug-free campus policy, including a negative drug screen for all panels prior to placement
Required Qualifications
- Active Illinois (IL) RN license required (or confirmation that the application process has been initiated at time of submission)
- BLS certification required
- ACLS certification required
- NIHSS certification required
- Minimum of 1 year of neuro and telemetry nursing experience required
- Locals are welcome — candidates with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility are eligible
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience caring for patients with cerebrovascular conditions, neurological surgical procedures, or cardiovascular diagnoses
- Familiarity with Phillips telemetry monitoring systems
- Experience working in a self-scheduling or block-scheduling environment
