Key Responsibilities
- Provide general medical-surgical nursing care to a diverse patient population with diagnoses including chronic illnesses (COPD, Diabetes, CHF, end-stage renal disease), GI conditions, infections, neurological disorders, and mental health conditions.
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments, develop care plans, and maintain inter-professional communication throughout the care continuum.
- Manage and operate unit equipment including IV pumps, wound vacs, feeding pumps and tubes, chest tubes, heating/cooling pads, and telemetry monitoring.
- Administer and monitor IV therapy, heparin and insulin drips, and support patients undergoing procedures such as colonoscopies, bronchoscopy, paracentesis, and minor surgeries.
- Accurately document all patient care activities utilizing the Epic electronic health record system and utilize Pyxis medication dispensing and Accucheck blood glucose monitoring.
- Float to other medical units as needed based on census and staffing demands; maintain patient ratios of 1:5–6.
Required Qualifications
- Active Indiana RN license or a valid compact RN license.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Minimum of 1.5 years of experience in a Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary care setting.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a facility of 600 or more beds.
- Proficiency with Epic electronic health record system.
- Ability to work 12-hour night shifts, including 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience floating to multiple medical units within a large hospital environment.
- Familiarity with Hospira IV pumps, Pyxis machines, and telemetry monitoring systems.
- Experience managing complex patient populations including neurological, GI, and mental health diagnoses.
