Key Responsibilities

  • Function as a scrub technologist by setting up sterile instrument tables, passing catheters and sterile instruments to physicians, and anticipating procedural needs while maintaining a clean environment.

  • Prepare patients for procedures through proper positioning, application of sterile technique, patient education, and verification of required pre-procedure documentation and laboratory work.

  • Operate complex radiology equipment including cine angiographic systems, digital subtraction devices, biplane x-ray tubes, power injectors, and fluoroscopic equipment; calculate and select appropriate technical factors based on patient-specific variables.

  • Monitor and observe patients' cardiovascular and pulmonary systems during catheterization procedures; recognize arrhythmias, heart blocks, and morphologic changes; calculate hemodynamic data and alert physicians to abnormal findings.

  • Transfer and permanently archive all procedure images into the cardiac picture archival system, ensuring accurate storage within patient records.

  • Maintain equipment readiness by performing minor repairs and reporting malfunctions; assist with room turnover between cases including breakdown, waste disposal, and supply replenishment; fulfill monthly on-call requirements including weekends, after-hours, and holidays.

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of a two-year post-secondary program at an accredited School of Radiologic Technology, including a minimum of six months of training in radiologic special procedures.

  • Current registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

  • Active licensure with the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA).

  • Minimum of one year of on-the-job experience performing radiologic special procedures.

  • Current CPR certification.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide age-appropriate patient care across the patient population served.

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • Prior experience in a cardiac catheterization or interventional radiology laboratory setting.

  • Familiarity with hemodynamic monitoring, physiologic recording systems, and cardiac picture archival systems.

  • Experience recognizing and responding to cardiac arrhythmias and hemodynamic changes in a procedural environment.
