Key Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing interventions and patient care goals in the operating room setting.
• Provide patient-centered care in accordance with standards of care, protocols, and policies.
• Respect patient dignity and promote positive self-regard through compassionate care.
• Educate patients and their families, addressing learning needs, barriers, and readiness to learn.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to prepare patients and families for discharge, incorporating support systems and resources.
• Delegate and supervise nursing interventions performed by others, ensuring safe and appropriate care.
• Prioritize patient care needs, seek assistance, reassign personnel, and recognize emergency situations promptly.
• Document all patient data, interventions, and responses accurately and in a timely manner.
• Communicate effectively with team members to ensure continuity and quality of care.
• Serve as a resource and mentor for colleagues, participating in professional development activities.
• Identify and address patient safety risks and report incidents to reduce medical errors.
• Administer medications and IV therapies following orders and protocols.
• Assess pain levels, reassess effectiveness of pain management, and document responses.
• Conduct pre-admission testing and review preoperative orders, test results, and consent forms.
• Provide emotional support to patients experiencing changes related to surgery.
• Follow up with postoperative patients through scheduled phone calls.

Required Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
• Valid registered nurse license in Massachusetts.
• Current ACLS and PALS certifications.
• Proficiency in peripheral IV insertion and nursing assessment skills.

Preferred Experience / Skills

• At least one year of acute care nursing experience.
• Previous experience in surgical day care (SDC), perioperative, endoscopy, or operating room settings.
• IV certification preferred.
