Key Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing interventions and patient care goals in the operating room setting.
- Provide patient-centered care in accordance with standards of care, protocols, and policies.
- Respect patient dignity and promote positive self-regard through compassionate care.
- Educate patients and their families, addressing learning needs, barriers, and readiness to learn.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to prepare patients and families for discharge, incorporating support systems and resources.
- Delegate and supervise nursing interventions performed by others, ensuring safe and appropriate care.
- Prioritize patient care needs, seek assistance, reassign personnel, and recognize emergency situations promptly.
- Document all patient data, interventions, and responses accurately and in a timely manner.
- Communicate effectively with team members to ensure continuity and quality of care.
- Serve as a resource and mentor for colleagues, participating in professional development activities.
- Identify and address patient safety risks and report incidents to reduce medical errors.
- Administer medications and IV therapies following orders and protocols.
- Assess pain levels, reassess effectiveness of pain management, and document responses.
- Conduct pre-admission testing and review preoperative orders, test results, and consent forms.
- Provide emotional support to patients experiencing changes related to surgery.
- Follow up with postoperative patients through scheduled phone calls.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
- Valid registered nurse license in Massachusetts.
- Current ACLS and PALS certifications.
- Proficiency in peripheral IV insertion and nursing assessment skills.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- At least one year of acute care nursing experience.
- Previous experience in surgical day care (SDC), perioperative, endoscopy, or operating room settings.
- IV certification preferred.
