Key Responsibilities
- Serve as primary scrub person for operative procedures, including setting up cases, ensuring all instruments are thoroughly sterilized, and maintaining the sterile field throughout
- Pass instruments, assist the physician as directed, perform instrument, sponge, and sharps counts, and assist with draping and patient positioning during surgical cases
- Alert the circulating nurse of any identified risks or variances from standard operating procedures
- Perform post-case gross decontamination of instruments, coordinate breakdown for Central Sterile Processing, and ensure the surgical suite is disinfected and restocked for the next procedure
- Notify appropriate leadership of any damaged instruments identified at the end of a case
- Complete all mandatory education, maintain compliance with HR and Employee Health requirements, and adhere to all safe practices in the OR including age-specific competency assessments
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of seven (7) years of surgical technologist experience
- Technical Diploma from an accredited Surgical Technologist program, or comparable military training
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and professionally in both verbal and written formats
- Ability to collaborate respectfully with interdisciplinary team members and adhere to established OR standards and protocols
