Key Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic ultrasound and sonographic examinations on adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients under the supervision of the ultrasound supervisor, producing and interpreting images to assist physicians in rendering a diagnosis.
  • Obtain and review pertinent patient history, physical exam findings, and clinical data to optimize diagnostic results; confirm two forms of patient identification prior to each examination.
  • Acquire, evaluate, and interpret ultrasound images and related data, providing interpreting physicians with oral or written summaries of technical findings.
  • Utilize PACS and the Radiology Information System (RIS) to log on, retrieve patient information, document findings, and route images to appropriate destinations.
  • Perform quality assurance and infection control measures, including equipment inspection for electrical and mechanical hazards, acoustic testing, and proper disinfection protocols.
  • Participate in on-call rotation as scheduled, maintaining availability and responding in a timely manner; stock and maintain ultrasound lab supplies and linens.

Required Qualifications

  • Registry eligible or registered with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
  • Ability to perform ultrasound examinations across all specialized areas, including vascular and echocardiography.
  • Proficiency with PACS and Radiology Information Systems for documentation and image management.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry 10–25 pounds, push/pull equipment up to 100 pounds, stand approximately 2 hours per day, and sit for extended periods during exams.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with patients, families, nursing staff, and physicians.
  • Adherence to HIPAA regulations, professional code of conduct, and universal precautions/infection control standards.

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • Minimum of six months of hands-on experience performing ultrasound examinations in a clinical setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of age-specific care practices across adult, pediatric, and neonatal patient populations.
  • Experience with performance improvement initiatives and departmental quality assurance programs.
