Key Responsibilities

  • Initiate, monitor, and maintain life support ventilation systems, including emergency intubations and ventilator adjustments, in accordance with physician orders.
  • Perform arterial punctures, evaluate laboratory results, and collaborate with physicians on mode of therapy and weaning protocols.
  • Participate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation efforts, including airway management, manual ventilation, and mechanical ventilation initiation during transfers or emergencies.
  • Assess and evaluate patients with respiratory conditions, providing treatment recommendations and consulting with physicians regarding treatment plans and equipment.
  • Administer age-specific respiratory treatments, including nebulizer therapy, chest physiotherapy, and medication management, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
  • Operate pulmonary function testing equipment and pulse oximetry monitors; interpret results for clinical use.
  • Educate patients and families on respiratory treatments, postural drainage, breathing exercises, and oxygen conservation.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and well-stocked environment, adhering to infection control protocols.
  • Follow safety procedures, monitor equipment for maintenance needs, and document patient care accurately.
  • Support pulmonary rehabilitation programs and assist with sleep studies and electroencephalogram procedures as required.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Respiratory Therapist license or certification recognized by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC); RRT preferred.
  • Ability to perform complex respiratory procedures, including ventilator management and arterial blood gas sampling.
  • Strong clinical judgment and ability to work independently in a hospital setting.
  • Excellent patient communication skills and ability to collaborate with medical teams.

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • Prior experience working with critically ill, pediatric, or neonatal patients.
  • Knowledge of sleep study procedures, pulmonary function testing, and electroencephalogram setup.
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus.
