Key Responsibilities
- Perform laboratory tests across all assigned areas including hematology, immunohematology, immunology, bacteriology, microscopy, routine chemistry, and therapeutic drug monitoring in accordance with established protocols.
- Perform phlebotomy procedures including arterial puncture, capillary punctures, and venipunctures, applying age-specific criteria as appropriate.
- Process specimens, calibrate and maintain instruments, and perform quality control, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting to ensure proper instrument and reagent function.
- Validate and report test results accurately and in a timely manner; prepare and maintain reagent supplies necessary for testing.
- Assist in the maintenance and development of laboratory policy and procedural manuals, and support orientation and training of students and new employees.
- Follow all established safety practices including biohazard protocols, exposure control plans, infection control, and chemical hygiene standards.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Medical Technology or a related area of specialty.
- Certification/registration or certification/registry eligibility as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) through AMT or ASCP is required.
- Knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, equipment, and techniques of medical technology.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to function in limited space with frequent interruptions and adapt to day-to-day temperature variations and moderate noise levels within a laboratory environment.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience performing general laboratory supervision for waived, moderate, and high complexity testing.
- Familiarity with hospital-wide Quality Improvement programs and participation in departmental QI activities.
- Experience researching and developing new laboratory procedures.
