Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and provide instruments and equipment to surgeons during surgical procedures in the Operating Room under surgeon supervision.
- Ensure the preparation and maintenance of the sterile field; adhere to proper aseptic technique and safety protocols for instruments and equipment.
- Perform instrument counts prior to each procedure and maintain accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments throughout.
- Secure and prepare all supplies and instruments required for surgical intervention before procedures begin.
- Prepare patient skin for surgical treatment, assist with patient positioning and repositioning during surgery, and help monitor patients intraoperatively.
- Ensure specimens are correctly handled and routed, and provide supportive care during the pre-operative phase.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum two (2) years of current experience in a large Operating Room setting.
- High School Diploma or GED plus one of the following: completion of a Surgical Technician training program from an accredited school, or a Certified Surgical Technician credential from NBSTSA or NCCT with ten (10) years of experience.
- BLS certification required; must be obtained through the American Heart Association, American Health and Safety, or American Red Cross.
- Must be a team player, flexible, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience in Orthopedics, ENT, and/or Vascular surgery is a plus.
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through NBSTSA or Tech in Surgery certification through NCCT preferred.
- Epic EMR experience preferred; on-site training available.
