Key Responsibilities
- Provide intermediate-level nursing care to a diverse patient population including cerebrovascular accident (CVA), transient ischemic attack (TIA), seizures, and general neuroscience patients.
- Manage high-risk respiratory patients, including those requiring heated high-flow oxygen and BiPAP support; ventilator experience is essential.
- Participate in team nursing and/or primary nursing models, partnering with LPNs and PCTs to divide workload and optimize patient care across a 36-bed unit.
- Monitor and respond to cardiac telemetry, applying EKG/dysrhythmia competency in daily patient management.
- Float within the facility or to nearby campus locations based on census and unit needs, including high-risk respiratory and neuro ICU settings.
- Accurately document all patient care activities using the Epic electronic health record system.
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license (any active state license or compact license accepted); no past license disciplinary actions.
- Demonstrated Step-Down or PCU experience with a 1:5 patient ratio reflected in work history — ICU experience alone does not satisfy this requirement.
- Ventilator experience required.
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale certifications.
- Proficiency with Epic electronic health record system.
- Must pass an online EKG/telemetry competency assessment prior to assignment start; lab work and EKG exam must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Prior travel nursing experience preferred.
- IV start certification preferred.
- Comfort with floating to varied units, including neuro ICU and high-risk respiratory settings, based on skill set and census needs.
