Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a Medical Surgical Trauma unit receiving patients from the ED, OR, and ICU, including geriatric trauma, abuse/violence victims, MVA/MVC, falls, and acute care surgery cases
- Manage and monitor patients with complex diagnoses including traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injuries, orthopedic trauma, and post-surgical conditions such as total joint replacements and hernia repairs
- Perform and oversee clinical skills including blood product administration, peripheral line care and management, phlebotomy, IV insertion, insulin administration, and PCA management
- Operate and manage specialized equipment including wound vacs, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC), external fixators, traction, and restraints
- Interpret and manage cardiac dysrhythmias; must pass a Relias EKG examination prior to assignment
- Maintain patient safety through proper isolation precautions, wound care, oral suctioning, and oxygen therapy management across multiple delivery modalities
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license (MO or compact); pending MO license accepted at time of submittal
- Minimum 5 years of nursing experience required
- Current BLS (BCLS) and ACLS certifications required by compliance deadline
- Level I Trauma experience required
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and manage cardiac dysrhythmias; must pass Relias EKG exam
- Proficiency in Med/Surg skills including peripheral nerve block catheter management, surgical drains, chest tubes, and wound vac therapy
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience with peripheral nerve block catheters and total joint replacement patient populations
- Familiarity with EPIC electronic health records system
- Experience in a Magnet-designated or Level I Trauma teaching hospital environment
