Contract | Full-Time | Onsite | Days, 3x12 Hours (6:45 AM – 7:15 PM) | Every other weekend required

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care on a Medical Surgical unit with an average daily census of 21 patients at a 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Float as needed to other Medical Surgical and like units within the facility to meet staffing needs
• Administer medications including heparin, insulin, and PCA; manage IV therapy including peripheral lines, PICC lines, and central line blood draws
• Perform and assist with respiratory care including high-flow nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP, chest tubes, and oxygen delivery devices
• Provide wound care, ostomy care, feeding tube management, and surgical drain care as required
• Document patient care accurately using Cerner electronic health records

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license in hand at time of application — pending licensure not accepted
• Minimum 1 year of Medical Surgical nursing experience required
• Current BLS certification (AHA or Red Cross only; RQI cards not accepted)
• Current NIH Stroke Scale certification (AHA or Red Cross only)
• Ability to work every other weekend and 2 out of 3 major holidays

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Cardiac monitoring experience including telemetry and remote monitoring; cardiovascular case experience such as post-angiogram and post-MI care; endocrine/metabolic experience including IV insulin protocols
• Neurological case experience including CVA and pre/post neurosurgery; genitourinary/renal experience including pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure
• Previous charge nurse experience and Level I Trauma experience
• Proficiency with Cerner electronic health records
