Special Education Teacher
Primary Purpose: Special Education Teacher role is focused on highly individualized instruction in small classes. Villa serves students with language-based learning differences, auditory processing challenges, NVLD, ASD, ADHD, and other learning profiles. Teachers work closely with an integrated team of SLPs, counselors, social workers, OTs, and other educators.
Position Details:
- Location: Stamford, CT
- Salary: $55,000-80,000
- Hours: M-F - May Vary
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education required, Master’s degree preferred.
- Valid CT teaching certification in Special Education. Open to certifications in process on a case by case basis.
- Experience teaching Middle & High School ages
- Experience working with students with a range of disabilities (e.g., learning disabilities, autism, developmental delays, etc.)

Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized and small-group instruction based on each student’s learning profile, strengths, and needs.
- Develop and adapt instruction to support students with learning differences, ASD, ADHD, and language-based disabilities.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with students and create a positive, supportive classroom environment.
- Collaborate closely with special education teachers, SLPs, OTs, counselors, and other support staff.
- Support students’ academic, social, emotional, and executive-functioning skills.
- Use differentiated and multisensory instructional strategies to promote student growth and independence.
- Monitor student progress and adjust instruction based on individual needs.
- Communicate regularly with families and participate in collaborative student-support meetings.
- Demonstrate patience, creativity, flexibility, humor, and strong communication skills.
- Participate in ongoing professional development; Villa notes that its teachers are trained in PAF, an Orton-Gillingham-based multisensory reading program.
Work Environment:
- Classroom and school environment, which may include both individual and group instruction.
- May involve working with students in various settings (classroom, therapy rooms, or outdoor spaces).
- Frequent interaction with parents, staff, and administrators.
