Registered Nurse
Primary Purpose: The School Nurse provides culturally responsive and trauma-informed health services; responds to illness, injury, and medical emergencies; coordinates care for students with ongoing health needs; and promotes the physical and emotional well-being of the school community. As a member of Student Success and School Safety Teams, the nurse works in partnership with students, families, staff, healthcare providers, and community organizations to reduce barriers to learning and ensure every student feels known, safe, and supported.
Position Details:
- Location: Stamford, CT
- Pay: Starting at $53/hr
- Schedule: Mondays & Thursdays - 6-7hrs/day
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing or beyond
- Valid CT RN License
- Current BLS certification
- Minimum 1yrs exp under license preferably with school-nursing or pediatric experience.
- Primary duties School clinic-based RN consists of, medication administration, student health assessments, and general nursing support.
Skills & Experience:
- Experience working with children or adolescents, preferably in a school, pediatric, or special education setting
- Strong knowledge of student health, medication administration, first aid, and emergency care
- Ability to assess student health needs and develop/implement individualized health plans
- Experience working with students with developmental, behavioral, or learning differences preferred
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with families, teachers, and multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to maintain accurate, confidential health records and documentation
- Compassionate, patient, flexible, and comfortable working in a small, student-centered school environment
Responsibilities:
- Provide daily nursing care and health services for students in a specialized private school setting.
- Assess and respond to students’ acute and ongoing health needs throughout the school day.
- Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders, school policies, and state regulations.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student health records and medication documentation.
- Develop and maintain individualized health plans for students with medical needs.
- Communicate with families, physicians, and school staff regarding student health concerns and care plans.
- Collaborate with Villa’s multidisciplinary team, including teachers, counselors, social workers, speech-language pathologists, and occupational therapists.
- Provide first aid and respond appropriately to illnesses, injuries, and emergencies.
- Monitor students with conditions that may affect their ability to participate safely in the school environment.
- Support a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment for students with diverse learning and developmental profiles, including ASD, ADHD, language-based learning differences, and other disabilities.
- Maintain compliance with applicable health, safety, and school regulations.
- Educate students and staff on health, wellness, safety, and appropriate health practices.
Work Environment:
- The position requires frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling.
- The nurse must be able to lift up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 40 pounds occasionally.
- The role involves frequent interruptions, emergency response, exposure to illness and bodily fluids, and the ability to remain composed under pressure.
