Key Responsibilities
- Provides routine and complex nursing care utilizing the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients in a Labor and Delivery setting.
- Administers medications and treatments per appropriate protocol; monitors for side effects and effectiveness of prescribed treatments.
- Addresses complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families in accordance with scope of practice.
- Documents patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided accurately and in a timely manner.
- Assesses learning needs and provides education to patients, family members, and/or caregivers; identifies issues and available resources.
- Makes appropriate assignments and delegates to other care providers as needed to effectively manage the clinical situation.
Required Qualifications
- Active RN License in the state of Texas or a compact state license.
- Current NCC Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM) certification or AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) certification.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification – American Heart Association (AHA) only.
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification – American Heart Association (AHA) only.
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in Labor and Delivery or a related perinatal nursing specialty.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
- Completion of a Perinatal RN Residency program or recent practice in a perinatal setting.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex contingencies in a clinical Labor and Delivery environment.
