Crisis Behavioral Health Clinician

Key Responsibilities
- Provide evidence-based, culturally relevant crisis intervention services in the emergency room and other hospital departments for individuals experiencing behavioral, emotional, substance, and/or mental health disorders
- Assess individuals in crisis in coordination with the interdisciplinary team to determine the most appropriate level of care, including evaluation for involuntary psychiatric hospitalization under Alaska Statute Title 47
- Coordinate care with external agencies, psychiatric hospitals, and evaluation and treatment facilities to facilitate higher levels of care when indicated
- Provide short-term management of mental health and substance use disorders, including motivational interviewing, bio-psychosocial education, and skill development
- Serve as an active member of the patient's interdisciplinary treatment team, collaborating with physicians, nurses, social work, discharge planners, and utilization review staff
- Maintain complete, timely, and accurate documentation of all services within the electronic health record in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
Required Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related discipline from an accredited institution
- Active licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) preferred; unlicensed candidates will receive clinical supervision and must obtain and maintain licensure throughout employment
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 3 months of hire
- Valid State of Alaska Driver's License, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a mental health, substance use treatment program, or similar behavioral health social service setting
- Experience conducting behavioral health assessments and diagnoses across all age groups
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Alaska State Chemical Dependency Counselor I (CDCI) or Master Addiction Counselor (MAC) certificate or equivalent
- Familiarity with Alaska Statute Title 47 involuntary commitment procedures and associated documentation
- Knowledge of federal and state mandatory reporting requirements, HIPAA, CARF, The Joint Commission, and applicable Medicaid and federal regulations
- Experience applying Trauma Informed Care principles in clinical and community settings
