Registered Nurse Operating Room

Job Title

• Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN)

Schedule / Job Type

• Full-time, Contract (Travel), 4 shifts per week, Day shifts (10 hours per shift)

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in the operating room for a variety of surgical procedures, excluding cardiovascular cases.
• Assist with preoperative and postoperative patient assessments and care.
• Collaborate with surgical teams to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes.
• Manage surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment according to sterile protocols.
• Document patient care and procedure details accurately in Cerner electronic charting system.
• Adhere to hospital protocols including infection control, radiation safety, and universal precautions.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Illinois RN license in hand or in application process.
• Minimum of 18 months of OR nursing experience, including general surgery and trauma cases.
• Experience with laparoscopic-assisted procedures and a variety of surgical cases (appendectomy, cholecystectomy, hernia repair, mastectomy, thyroidectomy, Whipple, etc.).
• Level I trauma experience required.
• BLS certification required; CNOR certification preferred.
• Proficiency with Cerner charting system.
• Ability to work 2 out of 3 major holidays and be flexible with floating within hospital scope.
• Active identification and compliance with all license, certification, and hospital policies.

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Cerner electronic health record system experience.
• Experience with organ donation and specific surgical procedures listed.
• Knowledge of emergency management including code response, fire safety, and handling latex allergies.
• Experience with advanced surgical equipment such as electrosurgical units and fiber optic light sources.
