Key Responsibilities
- Perform specimen processing, testing, and reporting of laboratory test results in accordance with regulatory standards and organizational policies.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment in chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, blood bank, microbiology, and clinical microscopy.
- Ensure accurate and timely communication of test results to support patient care.
- Maintain quality control procedures and document all activities in compliance with accreditation requirements.
- Rotate through various laboratory sub-specialties and shift schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Adhere to all safety and infection control protocols within the hospital laboratory setting.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED, plus completion of an official military medical laboratory procedures course or 60 semester hours of coursework in an accredited institution, including at least 24 semester hours in medical laboratory or science courses.
- For Medical Laboratory Technician: Certification from a recognized agency within 18 months of hire, with six months of bench experience in multiple specialties such as blood bank, microbiology, chemistry, and hematology.
- For Medical Laboratory Scientist: Baccalaureate degree with 48 semester hours in relevant courses, including chemistry and biology, and certification from a recognized agency within 18 months.
- Ability to perform testing and operate laboratory instruments in a clinical setting.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- One or more years of approved clinical laboratory experience, including rotations through blood bank, microbiology, chemistry, and hematology.
- Prior experience working in a hospital or high-volume laboratory setting.
- Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols.
