Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine and complex clinical laboratory tests in accordance with established policies and procedures to support diagnosis and treatment of disease; assess test results for accuracy
• Perform and document required quality control and calibration procedures, evaluate abnormalities, and pursue resolution under the direction of laboratory management and pathologist
• Perform routine preventative maintenance, calibration, and minor troubleshooting on laboratory instruments
• Collect patient specimens from all patient age groups as needed
• Assist in the training of new employees and students, and may assist in the evaluation and implementation of new laboratory equipment and procedures
• Maintain compliance with laboratory policies, regulatory agency requirements, infection control guidelines, and overall facility regulations

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Clinical or Medical Laboratory Science; alternative bachelor's degrees accepted with successful completion of ASCP or AMT CLS certification prior to employment
• Successful completion of the ASCP or AMT Board of Certification CLS exam required within the first year of employment
• Maintenance of current certification in accordance with guidelines established by the appropriate certifying agency
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with patients and healthcare professionals in a high-stress environment
• Ability to evaluate, troubleshoot, research, and resolve day-to-day laboratory problems and special projects as assigned

Preferred Experience / Skills

• 1 to 2 years of clinical laboratory experience preferred
• Familiarity with quality improvement programs and regulatory compliance in a laboratory setting
