Key Responsibilities
- Check supplies and equipment needed for each surgical procedure and prepare the surgical suite for the next patient
- Scrub, gown, and glove self, surgeon, and assistants; assist in draping the sterile field
- Perform appropriate instrument, sponge, and sharps counts with the circulator prior to incision and before closure
- Pass instruments and supplies to the surgeon throughout the procedure while maintaining the highest standards of sterile technique
- Assist with terminal cleaning of the operating room and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization
- Support orientation and training of new employees and students in the surgical technologist role
Required Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program (Certificate or Diploma from a Trade or Technical School)
- Certification by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
- Proficiency in total joint, sports medicine, general surgery, and orthopedic spine procedures
- Ability to work under the direct supervision of a surgeon in an operating room environment
Preferred Experience / Skills
- At least one year of prior surgical technologist experience
- Familiarity with a broad range of surgical specialties and instrument sets
