Surgical Technologist – CVOR

Key Responsibilities

• Perform scrub functions in the CVOR, including draping, instrumentation, suture handling, and equipment management, while maintaining an organized mayo and back table throughout each procedure.
• Execute and verify all required counts of instruments, sponges, and supplies before, during, and after each surgical procedure.
• Apply and uphold principles of aseptic technique including gowning, gloving, sterilization, and disinfection; properly handle, identify, and label medications on the sterile field.
• Ensure safe handling and disposal of sharps and assist with proper cleaning, movement, and storage of surgical equipment.
• Actively participate in unit activities including staff meetings, orientation of new staff or students, and submission of updates to preference cards.
• Complete all required safety training programs and demonstrate knowledge of National Patient Safety Goals and AORN Guidelines and Recommended Practices.

Required Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology Program (Technical Diploma or Associate's Degree).
• Current BLS certification.
• National certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).
• Ability to communicate effectively, accept accountability, and collaborate respectfully with all team members.
• Ability to anticipate surgeon needs and function competently in emergency situations.

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Demonstrated versatility across a variety of OR specialties.
• Familiarity with sterilization modalities such as Steris, steam, Sterrad, and event-related sterility practices.
