Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

Contract | Nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) | 3 x 12-hour shifts per week | Every other weekend required | Holidays based on unit needs

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in a Progressive Care Unit with patient ratios of 3:1 to 4:1
• Operate and monitor BiPAP, chest tubes, and PICC lines; draw own labs independently without a vascular access team
• Call on own consults and conduct own codes as needed
• Care for post-open-heart surgery patients (Day 2 or Day 3) including management of pacer wires
• Float to ICU and inpatient units including Med/Surge, Med/Tele, Acute/Tele, and ED based on unit needs and prior experience
• Document and manage patient care using Epic EMR

Required Qualifications

• Active Kansas RN license or valid Compact RN license
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIH certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of recent Critical Care/ICU or Emergency Department experience
• Demonstrated experience with BiPAP, chest tubes, PICC lines, and independent lab draws
• Strong critical thinking skills with ability to function independently without a vascular access team
• Open-heart post-operative experience (Day 2 or Day 3) with pacer wire management

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Prior experience floating to ICU, Med/Surge, Med/Tele, Acute/Tele, and Emergency Department settings
• Familiarity with Epic EMR
• Experience independently managing complex patient consults and code situations
