Occupational Therapist (OT) – Acute Care

Schedule / Job Type
Contract | Days | 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM | Onsite | Rotating weekends required (1–2 weekends per assignment period, with days off before and/or after)
Key Responsibilities
- Perform occupational therapy evaluations and provide individualized treatment interventions for inpatient acute care and rehabilitation patients across a variety of diagnoses including orthopedic, neurological, and general medical disorders
- Conduct ongoing assessment and adjustment of treatment plans for medically complex and often medically unstable patients, applying critical thinking related to multiple medical diagnoses and physical/cognitive challenges
- Monitor and interpret vital signs, identify indications and contraindications, and maintain awareness of vital medical equipment during patient treatment
- Manage a high-volume caseload and dynamic schedule, continuously prioritizing and rescheduling patient care in response to new orders, procedures, nursing cares, and patient needs
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure patient safety, facilitate discharge planning, coordinate resource utilization, and maintain clear hand-off communication
- Complete computerized documentation including FIM scoring; may supervise certified occupational therapist assistants, aides, and students as applicable
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy program
- Current, valid Occupational Therapist licensure in the state of South Dakota (or eligibility to obtain)
- Experience evaluating and treating medically complex patients in an acute care or inpatient setting
- Proficiency with computerized charting and clinical documentation systems
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and organizational skills in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to communicate effectively with interdisciplinary teams and recommend appropriate discharge destinations
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience with UE Bioness or Dynavision therapeutic equipment
- Prior experience supervising OTAs, therapy aides, or students in a clinical setting
- Familiarity with FIM scoring in an inpatient rehabilitation or acute care environment
