What You’ll Be Doing

  • Manage classroom and individual student behavior to create a positive learning environment.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with IEP goals, utilizing appropriate instructional techniques.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments to monitor student progress and identify areas needing intervention.
  • Maintain accurate records of student achievements, behavioral data, and progress reports.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, staff, and IEP team members through conferences, reports, and updates.
  • Facilitate IEP development, implementation, and review in collaboration with general education staff.
  • Adapt instruction to meet the diverse needs of students, incorporating academic, social, and emotional growth strategies.
  • Participate in professional development workshops to refine instructional strategies and promote best practices.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Valid CT Teaching Certification in Special Education (4-8 or K-12).
  • Current Physical Management Training (PMT) or Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification.
  • Proven experience working with students with disabilities such as autism, learning disabilities, or developmental delays.
  • Knowledge of IEP development, data collection, and behavior management strategies.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience in public schools with social/emotional/behavioral needs.

Other Requirements

  • Candidate must hold valid Connecticut teaching certification.
  • Ability to work in a classroom setting, including outdoor or therapy spaces if necessary.
  • Adept at working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, parents, and community resources.
