Contract | Days | 12-Hour Shifts (0700–1930) | Every other weekend required (Saturday & Sunday) | Holiday rotation required
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a 63-bed surgical acute unit, including post-operative patients, trauma, and overflow medical patients
- Perform wound care, dressing changes, IV therapy, pain management, and management of drains, NG tubes, central lines, and TPN
- Monitor and manage patients on CPAP and high-flow oxygen; manage inhalers independently
- Collaborate with PCTs, charge nurses, and house supervisors to maintain safe nurse-to-patient ratios (expected 4–5 patients per RN on days)
- Float to units with equivalent level of care as needed; travelers are first to float
- Maintain active Illinois RN license and comply with facility drug-free campus policy, including a negative drug screen
Required Qualifications
- Active Illinois RN license (or confirmation that the application process has been initiated)
- BLS certification required
- Experience in post-operative patient care
- Strong critical thinking skills and ability to work collaboratively as a team player
- Must comply with a drug-free campus policy and produce a negative drug screen for all panels
- Candidates with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility are subject to a local rate adjustment
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience with central lines, TPN, and NG tube management
- Familiarity with telemetry monitoring (Phillips monitors used on unit)
- Experience with EPIC electronic health records
- Strong bedside manner with the ability to recognize when to escalate and seek assistance
