Key Responsibilities
- Actively participate in time-out procedures, label all solutions and medications on the sterile field, and perform counts according to policy to ensure patient safety.
- Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of surgical procedures, instrumentation, and equipment; set up efficiently and be scrubbed and in the room prior to patient arrival.
- Maintain and protect the sterile field throughout each procedure while adhering to aseptic technique standards.
- Communicate effectively with OR team members, follow chain of command, and contribute to room turnover by returning rooms to a ready state at the end of each case.
- Practice safe handling of specimens, implants, explants, and sharps; utilize PPE and neutral zone techniques consistently.
- Assist with cleaning, stocking, and organization of the OR, and support peers and students in a preceptor capacity as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of a CAAHEP- or ABHES-accredited Surgical Technology Program, or completion of a Surgical Technologist Program through the United States Armed Forces.
- Active BLS certification required.
- One of the following certifications required: NBSTSA Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or NCCT Tech in Surgery – Certified (TS-C).
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a Scrub Tech, or equivalent training.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced operating room environment.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience in a cardiovascular operating room (CVOR) setting is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to expedite room turnover and manage ancillary OR duties including central sterile support.
