Key Responsibilities
- Implement selected components of patient treatment plans under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist, serving both inpatient and outpatient populations across various settings.
- Document patient encounter findings and treatments including diagnoses, treatment plans, recommendations, and prognoses in accordance with hospital policies.
- Develop and deliver patient and family education programs, including home exercise programs, to support rehabilitation goals and promote independence.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members including physicians, nurses, and rehabilitation professionals to coordinate care and facilitate appropriate discharge planning.
- Assist with acquisition and fitting of durable medical equipment and devices based on individual patient needs; maintain supply stocks and clinical equipment.
- Participate in community outreach, health promotion programs, and occasional multi-day travel to remote locations, which may include travel by boat or small plane.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree in Physical Therapy Assistant from a CAPTE-accredited program.
- Current licensure as a Physical Therapist Assistant in the state of Alaska (issued by the Alaska State Board of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
- Valid driver's license.
- Completion of Clinical Competency and High Risk Competency assessments within 3 months of hire, with renewal every three years.
- Knowledge of anatomy, musculoskeletal physiology, gait, biomechanics, and applicable billing mechanisms including Medicare, Medicaid, and third-party payers.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience in acute care hospital and clinical outpatient settings.
- Proficiency with adaptive devices including splints, braces, orthoses, seating equipment, durable medical equipment, and ADL assistive devices.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience with clinical documentation and patient/family education across diverse populations.
