Key Responsibilities
- Implement selected components of patient treatment plans under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist, serving both inpatient and outpatient populations across various settings.
- Document patient encounter findings and treatments including diagnoses, treatment plans, recommendations, and prognoses in accordance with hospital policies.
- Develop and deliver patient and family education, including home exercise programs, to support rehabilitative goals and promote self-care and independence.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members including physicians, nurses, and other rehabilitation professionals to coordinate care and facilitate appropriate discharge planning.
- Assist with the acquisition and fitting of durable medical equipment and devices based on individual patient needs; maintain supply stocks and clinical equipment.
- Provide therapy services in a variety of settings including inpatient, outpatient, community events, home visits, and occasional travel to remote locations by boat or small plane.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree in Physical Therapy Assistant from a CAPTE-accredited program.
- Current licensure as a Physical Therapist Assistant in the state of Alaska (issued by the Alaska State Board of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
- Valid driver's license.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to complete Clinical Competency and High Risk Competency assessments within 3 months of hire and every three years thereafter.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience in acute care hospital and clinical outpatient settings.
- Knowledge of billing mechanisms including Medicare, Medicaid, and third-party payers as they relate to physical therapy services and patient equipment.
- Proficiency with healthcare information technology, including multiple software applications, laptops, tablets, and imaging devices.
