Key Responsibilities

• Serve as primary scrub person for operative procedures, including setting up cases, ensuring instrument availability, and maintaining the sterile field throughout each case.
• Pass instruments, assist the physician as directed, perform instrument and sponge and sharps counts, and assist with patient draping and positioning.
• Alert the circulating nurse of any identified risks or variances from standard operating procedures during case setup and throughout the procedure.
• Perform post-case gross decontamination of instruments, break down instruments for Central Sterile Processing, and ensure the surgical suite is disinfected and restocked for the next procedure.
• Collaborate with the circulating nurse and support staff to carry out appropriate interventions and post-case cleaning duties.
• Complete all mandatory education, maintain compliance with HR and Employee Health requirements, and adhere to all safe practices in the OR including annual age-specific competency assessments.

Required Qualifications

• Seven (7) years of surgical technologist experience.
• Technical Diploma from an accredited Surgical Technologist program, or comparable military training.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• One of the following active certifications required: NBSTSA Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or NCCT Tech in Surgery – Certified (TS-C).
• Demonstrated ability to practice effective, clear, and respectful communication both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to collaborate with and respect all co-workers while actively contributing to team goals and outcomes.
