Registered Nurse – Emergency Room

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Nights | 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) | Weekdays, Every Other Weekend, and Holidays within contract | 4x12-hour shift option available with OT after 48 hours

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in a fast-paced Emergency Room environment
• Perform triage assessments and initiate appropriate interventions in a timely manner
• Perform IV starts, conscious sedation monitoring, and intermediate-level patient monitoring
• Manage standard patient ratios of 1:4, adjusting to 1:6 for med/surg holds; provide 1:1 care for stroke patients until admitted or through the TPA window, and for STEMI or cardiac arrest patients
• Accurately document all patient care activities using EPIC electronic health records
• Complete required pre-start orientation modules prior to first day of assignment

Required Qualifications

• Active Virginia or compact RN license in hand at time of submission – no exceptions
• Minimum 3 years of Emergency Room nursing experience required; travel nursing experience required
• EPIC charting experience required – no exceptions
• Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required – must be issued by the American Heart Association
• NIHSS certification required
• No prior license or background hits – candidates with any history will not be considered
• Must pass facility EKG/telemetry test with a score of 80% or higher prior to start (one attempt, no remediation)

Preferred Experience / Skills

• CPI and/or TNCC certification
• Experience with triage, conscious sedation, and intermediate IV starts in a high-acuity emergency setting
• Successful fit testing history; facility cannot accommodate PAPR devices
