Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and perform a variety of nursing care procedures for patients of all ages, including pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations, in an emergency department setting
- Conduct thorough nursing assessments through interviewing, observation, and the nursing process; document findings including review of body systems, laboratory results, and diagnostic findings
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans in collaboration with physicians and the broader healthcare team; provide discharge instructions and after-care planning
- Recognize emergently ill patients, respond promptly in emergency situations, and assist with emergency procedures such as intubations, arterial line setup, and arterial blood gas puncture
- Provide patient and family education regarding tests, procedures, disease processes, and health promotion; document education accurately and completely
- Delegate and supervise CNA/Tech staff appropriately; assist in orienting new staff and travelers; participate in at least 50% of departmental staff meetings
Required Qualifications
- Valid, current, full, and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Alaska — must be held at time of submission
- Current BLS and PALS certifications required upon hire
- ACLS certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire date
- Flu vaccination required
- Ability to make independent clinical decisions, maintain accountability for all actions, and exercise sound nursing judgment in emergent situations
- Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to accurately enter and retrieve patient data and communicate findings with the healthcare team
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Minimum of one year of clinical nursing experience
- Prior experience in an emergency department or relevant specialty area
- TNCC/ATCN and NRP certifications
- Proficiency with specialty equipment such as defibrillators, EKG machines, ventilators, and chest tube setup
