Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical / Telemetry (ED Holding / Float Pool)

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Nights (12-hour shifts, 36–48 hours per week) | Onsite | Every other weekend required

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care in an inpatient holding area located within the Emergency Department for adult patients awaiting inpatient bed placement
  • Manage Medical/Surgical and Telemetry-level patients, with potential responsibility for PCU-level patients
  • Interpret and manage cardiac dysrhythmias using telemetry monitoring (on-unit and remote)
  • Perform and manage a broad range of clinical skills including blood product administration, PICC line management, chest tube care, CPAP/BiPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, tracheostomy management, and ABG interpretation
  • Float to Emergency Department and Medical/Surgical areas as needed based on unit demands
  • Participate in Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team assignments; may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters

Required Qualifications

  • Active RN license in North Carolina or a valid Compact RN license
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience in Medical/Surgical or Telemetry
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications
  • Proficiency in telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and use of Rapid Response Teams
  • Experience with colostomy care, feeding tube management, renal failure, peripheral line care, phlebotomy, heparin, insulin, and isolation precautions
  • Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • NIHSS certification; experience with CVA, pre/post neurosurgery, spinal cord injuries, or traumatic brain injury
  • IV insulin protocol management and pre/post hemodialysis experience
  • Skills in accessing ports, central line blood draws, starting IVs, and wound care/wound vac management
  • Experience with orthopedic trauma and total joint replacements
